I believe that architects, despite all official commitments which depressed them, have to consider not  a problem of architecture, but a problem of city. We all know that present housing estates are inhuman, and they are inhuman not because the particular buildings are so pedestrian, but because they do not create a spiritual environment. There is no sacred place anywhere. But what kind of sacred place can modern city have? It seems to me that the only solution is to create a space for art.  In western countries modern art museums are built in great numbers now. They are not  only storehouses of artworks hanged out on the walls and arranged in the halls any more. They are giving birth to very special, vivid and  impressive, initiative environment. I think such kind of modern art museums – the word museum is already uneasy, but we don´t have any better – such kind of modern art museums should emerge in the middle of these housing estates as a spiritual centre, where people would come for a little piece of other life, different from the profane one. This would be a compensation for the lost sacred place and at the same time the ultimate place where it is worth to put art. People might come there for a bit of better air than their everyday life offers them.
